Community Based Theatre In Sioux Falls, SD

Steel Magnolias, March 14th – 24th

The Sioux Empire Community Theatre continues its successful 16th season with Robert Harling’s comedy-drama STEEL MAGNOLIAS, sponsored by Sanford Health, running March 14 through March 24, 2019 at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Sioux Falls. A special Dinner Theatre performance will be held at the Icon Lounge on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 5:30pm.

Described as “the funniest play ever to make you cry,” STEEL MAGNOLIAS focuses on the camaraderie of six very different Southern women who meet each week in Truvy’s beauty parlor to talk, gossip, and support each other through thick and thin. Infused with heart and humor, STEEL MAGNOLIAS is a hilarious story of love, loss, and enduring friendship.

Based on Harling’s real-life experience with his sister’s death, the play is a testament to the love, friendship and support of the female characters who, as the title suggests, “are as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel.” In Truvy’s own words of wisdom, “Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”

STEEL MAGNOLIAS premiered off-Broadway at the WPA Theater in 1987, then quickly transferred to the Lucille Lortel Theater and became an instant sensation, running for three years and spawning a hit movie.

The Sioux Empire Community Theatre’s production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS is directed by Robin Byrne and showcases Emily K. Wilson (Shelby), Tamra Huffman (M’Lynn), Terry Zerfas (Ousier), Lisa Kutter (Clairee), Amy Morrison (Truvy) and Macie Lupica (Annelle).
