At our annual meeting (and celebration!) earlier this month, Tammi Waltjer-Haverly – our previous Vice President and now elected President of the board of directors – saluted our two outgoing board members, Rick Weiland (President) and Steve Veenhof (Secretary), with some heartfelt words of adoration regarding their many years of service to the Playhouse and everyone’s sincere gratitude for their work in bringing our organization to its current state of success. We are sad to see them go, but we are grateful for their dedication to TPP and know that we will see them in the audience at the Orpheum for years to come.
In addition to this, our Managing Artistic Director, Oliver Mayes presented some honors at the annual meeting including a Lifetime Achievement in Volunteering Award, presented to our immediate past president, Rick Weiland for his many years of committed service to TPP. In his speech, Oliver referred to Rick as a key player in his quick study of our organization’s history and also a big reason that he took on his position at the Playhouse, noting their shared vision and goals for the organization’s future growth.
Last, but most certainly not least, Oliver presented a new honor and volunteer appreciation program he built with our volunteer committee to give back to our community of dedicated volunteers each season. The Premiere Players are a group of core volunteers at The Premiere Playhouse that are honored for their high level of engagement and work throughout the past season and will carry the title for the following season to mentor incoming volunteers and help us achieve our goals as a community-based theatre organization. TPP is hosting our brand new Volunteer Orientation on Sunday, August 6th from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the Orpheum (315 N. Phillips Avenue). Join our TPP staff of professionals to learn the ins and outs of what it means to be a volunteer at The Premiere Playhouse! We will be discussing different areas of volunteer work, theatre terms and vocab, touring the Orpheum space, and learning how to get involved. Come meet our team, The Premiere Players, and other volunteers from any and all TPP seasons! The event will take place in the TPP office space (entrance to the south side of the main Orpheum theater doors) from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Social hour starts at 11:00am with volunteer presentations to follow. Snacks will be provided!
