Executive Director’s Message

Season 18 officially gets underway this month with the auditions for It’s A Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play. We are so pleased to announce that this show is being directed by Amy Morrison. Amy has a terrific Pedigree of live theatre with a variety of groups in the area including SECT.

Our stage will be transformed into a 1940’s radio studio where actors will perform their show to you, the live theatre audience. The classic Frank Capra movie story that we are all familiar with is retold with all of the heartwarming and uplifting goodness that is a perfect Christmas tonic for us all in these difficult times.

We have put together a safety and protection plan to minimize the risk to our patrons. All seating will be socially distanced. You may sit in a group with family or friends and no one else will be seated immediately next to you. The wearing of masks is mandatory. We will open both entrances to the auditorium and those who are in possession of their tickets will enter through the old original entrance and proceed directly to the auditorium. Those buying or picking up will call tickets will use the main foyer and then proceed to the auditorium. There will not be an intermission and at the end of the show we will ask you to leave directly and wait for cast and crew in your vehicles. Our plan is being overseen by Dr Fernando Bula Rudas, an infectious disease expert with Sanford Children’s Hospital. Our patron flow in and out of the building has been designed by managers at 3M in Brookings. With our cleaning protocols in place, and the cooperation of the public, I feel that we have made going to the theatre to see a live show as safe as it can be (given that eliminating all risk is an impossibility). With your help we can set the safety standard for live entertainment here in Sioux Falls and put smiles on the faces of Sioux Empire people this Christmas.

You can purchase Season tickets from the Washington Pavilion Box Office right now for $100 plus admin fees or $75 if you already have a credit for the postponed Beauty and the Beast from last season. Individual tickets will go on sale from November 1st at $30 each plus admin fees.

Finally, I would like to thank our Board of Directors for their support and guidance over the past 7 months. Our Board is made up of volunteers who give their time freely to attend monthly meetings and roll up their sleeves in times of need. If you feel that you might be such a person, please visit our website and apply here: Board Application

It’s great to be getting things moving again. Please support us in our endeavor to bring high quality live theatre to the Orpheum stage and consider becoming a member through the purchase of Season tickets.

Best Regards,

Robin Byrne

Executive Director

SECT President’s Message

We are so excited with our lineup of shows for Season 18th. COVID-19 permitting, we are looking forward to bringing quality and affordable live theatre to the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Sioux Falls.

We have taken a hard look at how we can best ensure that our guests, cast, crew and staff can be safe during this challenging time and encourage you to take a look at our COVID-19 Safety Plan . We have taken CDC recommendations and researched what other community theatre organizations are doing in the region to create a ‘best practices’ approach for our upcoming season.

We just concluded auditions and announced the two casts for our season opener, It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. The Frank Capra holiday movie classic opens December 1, 2020. Celebrate the holidays with us and your family friends – not to mention George Bailey, Jake Laurent, Mary Hatch, Sally Applewhite, Freddie Fillmore, Harry “Jazzbo” Jenkins and Lana Sherwood, etc. Make sure you take advantage of our Season Ticket discount and preferred “social distance” seating.

We have learned from our outreach and research that there is hunger for live theatre in the Sioux Empire region. We hope to be able to fill that appetite with quality productions of shows you want to see in a safe environment

Thanks for all you do to support the arts and in particular, live theatre in the Sioux Empire!

Sincerely,

Rick Weiland

President

Sioux Empire Community Theatre
