About The Camp

Who: Any Performer (HS Freshman to HS Senior, entering, currently enrolled or graduating)

What: Join us on an EPIC journey to RAISE YOUR VOICE! TPP’s first ever High School Musical Theatre Intensive is a 3-week program for high school students interested in receiving intensive musical theatre training that will hone their skills in acting, singing and dancing through practical exercises, lectures, discussion and rehearsals, leading to a public presentation of the 2025 cohort’s 60-minute musical revue, Raise Your Voice, showcasing their immense growth in artistry and confidence on stage.

Where: Rock Island Studio, 300 N Phillips Ave, Suite #120

When: 3x Weekly, December 28th – January 17th from 4:30-7:30pm

Scholarships: Anyone age 13 is eligible for a $100 scholarship through ConnectKids. Please reach out to alex(at)thepremiereplayhouse.com for more details.

Illness Protocol: If you or your child is feeling sick, please communicate to us. Refrain from attending camp until cleared to come back so we can take the proper protocols. If you come down with sickness before camp, please let us know as soon as possible so we can take the proper steps. This policy is subject to change due to community illness status. You will be notified if this policy changes.

Alex Newcomb Weiland

Camp Director

Alex graduated in 2019 from The University of South Dakota with a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance and a Minor in Dance. She has studied voice professionally for 13 years through private and personal lessons. She attended the Open Jar Institute Summer Intensive in 2018 and received 3 Irene Ryan Nominations for Acting during her College Career. She has worked with multiple companies around the country, such as The Black Hills Playhouse, Bare Bodkins Theatre Company, Good Night Theatre Collective and Playwrights Horizons. Her teaching approach is collaborative and energetic, she aims to harvest an authentic, specific and intentional performance from each artist she works with. She is SO excited to continue to harvest the love of performance within the Sioux Falls community.

Patrick Simonsen

Choreogrpher

Patrick Simonsen is a performer and emerging choreographer known for his standout roles in regional theatre, including Eugene/Teen Angel in Grease, Prince Topher in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and Curly McLain in Oklahoma! at The Premiere Playhouse. A versatile baritone, Patrick has also been seen as Sky in Mamma Mia! and Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, earning a reputation for bringing grounded storytelling and musical precision to every production.

Trained in ballet, tap, and jazz, Patrick has studied with industry professionals through The Open Jar Institute, Steps on Broadway, and masterclasses in Bob Fosse style, dance audition technique, and advanced jazz. His performance background and keen eye for movement shape his choreographic work, blending strong character-driven storytelling with clean, expressive staging.
