The Premiere Playhouse is officially recruiting and hiring our Season 22 production team members! Positions are available for department heads (modest stipends available) and associates/assistants (unpaid apprenticeships or volunteer positions). Position Descriptions and Requirements:
Direction (Director/Co-Directors, Associate Director, Assistant Director):
- Responsible for overseeing and orchestrating the interpretation and performance of the production.
- Skills: Ability to helm a medium to large scale production; ability to interpret scripts and direct performers, as well as collaborate with the creative team and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask.
Music Direction (Music Director/Co-Music Directors, Associate Music Director, Assistant Music Director, Piano/Conductor, Vocal Coach, Rehearsal Pianist):
- Responsible for directing the ensemble and principal actors (as well as potential band members) in all music numbers for the show to develop a musically cohesive production.
- Skills: Ability to interpret musical score and direct performers in their ensemble and solo singing, as well as collaborate with the creative team and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask; musician skills, i.e. piano proficiency, conducting ability.
Choreography (Choreographer/Co-Choreographers, Associate Choreographer, Assistant Choreographer):
- Responsible for designing and coaching dance and movement for the production.
- Skills: Ability to interpret scripts/musical scores and coach performers in the appropriate dance style, as well as collaborate with the creative team and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask.
Stage Management (Stage Manager, Associate Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Deck Captain):
- Responsible for managing the stage, cast, crew, and performances throughout the production.
- Skills: Ability to meet deadlines; strong organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask; time, space and personnel management skills.
Producing & Production Management (Production Assistant, Administrative Assistant):
- Responsible for all aspects of the production including supervising, hiring, and working with production personnel to ensure the theatre delivers top quality productions.
- Skills: Broad understanding of theatre production; ability to mediate artistic and technical discussions; budget adherence; ability to develop planning/scheduling/spreadsheets.
Technical, Set Building & Painting (Carpenter, Rigger, Charge Artist, Scenic Painter):
- Responsible for making sure that all technical aspects of the show are carried out in a timely fashion.
- Skills: Ability to coordinate and collaborate with creative staff; building, rigging, or painting skills; knowledge of how to use materials and tools safely; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask.
Scenic & Props Design (Scenic Designer/Co-Scenic Designers, Associate Scenic Designer, Assistant Scenic Designer, Properties Artisan, Assistant Properties Artisan):
- Responsible for the scenic/stage design and/or props design and execution for the production.
- Skills: Ability to interpret and design sets and/or stage props; ability to collaborate with the creative team and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask; proficiency in drafting for scenic designers.
Costume/Hair/Makeup Design & Construction (Costume Designer, Hair & Make-up Designer, Associate Costume, Hair & Make-up Designer, Assistant Costume, Hair & Make-up Designer, Costume Shop Assistant, Stitcher):
- Responsible for the design/acquisition, fitting/altering costumes for the production and/or and designing and assisting actors in applying hair & makeup for the production.
- Skills: Knowledge of costume design and hair and makeup products, tools and techniques; ability to collaborate with the creative team and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask.
Lighting Design & Electrics (Lighting Designer, Associate Lighting Designer, Assistant Lighting Designer, Electrician):
- Responsible for designing, setting up and overseeing the lighting equipment for the production.
- Skills: Ability to interpret and design lighting arrangements; ability to collaborate with the creative team and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask.
Sound Design & Engineering (Sound Designer, Associate Sound Designer, Assistant Sound Designer, Sound Engineer):
- Responsible for designing, setting up and overseeing the sound equipment for the production.
- Skills: Ability to interpret and design sound cues; ability to collaborate with the creative team and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to multitask; ability to understand and work with sound/speaker/microphone equipment.
Please Note: Some positions are full and not all positions will exist within each Season 22 production but we do hope to fill each team with a robust amount of inspired artists to help us produce quality local theatre for Sioux Falls audiences. The heads/co-heads (mentors) of each department are paid contractors, in addition to some limited speciality positions. All associates, assistants and remaining positions (mentees) are volunteer, educationally and/or support based positions. All team members will work together to achieve their department goals through the leadership of the department head.
